Injury Prevention & Pain – A Yogic Perspective

Sunday, June 18, 2017, 12 – 2 pm

Ashtanga is one of the safest ways to get fit and healthy if approached intelligently. Yet, when we use our bodies actively and strongly we sometimes run into pain, strain and injury. Every physical expression has its own set of potential problem spots and Ashtanga Yoga has such too. In this workshop we take a detailed look at some of the Ashtanga Yoga practice’s classic locations for strain, such as how to keep our knees healthy in Padmasana, shoulders in Chatuari & Urdhva Dhanurasana, hamstrings in forward bending, and more. You will learn how to approach these asanas safely and accurately, how to distinguish between potentially hurting yourself and Patanjali’s proposition of Purifying Pain. This workshop aims at giving you tools to pursue your practice with gusto and joy, understand how discomfort & pain can be a guide in your practice, while staying healthy and safe on your mat.

Alexander Technique and sitting meditation with 20 years of experience as a professional dancer and an internationally acclaimed choreographer.
