Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga

Learn the fundamentals of the Ashtanga yoga practice in a slow, safe and comprehensive manner. In this four week course students will learn Sun Salutations and the fundamental standing asanas (postures), breathing techniques, and philosophy of the Ashtanga yoga system. This course will also teach you all about the Mysore style approach to learning. Class size is limited to 8 students to allow for more individual attention.

1-week Intermediate Series Immersion

Please note that this is NOT a teacher certification course. It is nothing like a teacher training. Only R. Sharath of the KPJ Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India, can grant Authorization and Certification to teach Ashtanga Yoga.

Join David Robson and the teachers of Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Toronto for an intensive, 1-week Immersion in the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Each day will begin with mysore-style or led practice. The rest of the day will be devoted to workshops in:

·       Asana clinics

·       Sanskrit in the practice

·       Learning the traditional vinyasa count for the Intermediate Series

·       Philosophy and theory of Ashtanga Yoga and The Yoga Sutras

In order to get the most benefit from this course, participants should be practicing Intermediate Series up to at least Dwi Pada Sirsasana. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact AYCT.

Ayurveda, The Healing Science 

Friday, July 10

Ayurveda is a timeless practice founded in ancient India which intends to create optimal health within mind, body, and spirit. Through investigation of lifestyle and dietary routines ayurveda cultivates wellbeing for the unique purposes each individual innately has. This discussion will elaborate on foundational practices ayurveda offers which guides one toward healthy awareness supportive of current life situations.

This workshop is donation based. We recommend a minimum donation of $5.

 

Ayurveda and the Flow of Prana 

Saturday, July 11
1 – 3pm

Ayurveda regards prana as the essential life force of an individual which sustain existence through breath. Examining the quality of prana empowers an individual to cultivate deeper vitality and harmony within their environment. Ayurveda suggest improving one’s prana through breathing exercises, diet, herbs, and observing the forces of stress. This workshop will focus on easy to use techniques that can be immediately implemented to improve one’s understanding of prana.

Cost: $40

 

Kyle Roberts is a graduate of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico where under the tutelage of Dr. Vasant Lad he studied the theoretical and clinical aspects of Ayurveda. Before, during, and after his formal ayurvedic training Kyle has studied Jyotish (classical vedic astrology), Ashtanga Yoga, Sanskrit, and herbology, as well as various practices of meditation and pranayama. He has studied throughout the United States and in India, working to integrate both eastern and western cultures into digestible forms of practical information. Kyle’s efforts are spent teaching various subjects within yoga and ayurveda as well as integrating classical healing practices with modern practicality for individual health concerns.

5-day Summer Retreat with David Robson

Come spend an idyllic 5-day weekend at sattvic Shanti Retreat on Wolfe Island. Located in Ontario’s Thousand Islands, just 3-hours drive from Toronto. Take your time while you practice, and then enjoy a delicious vegan breakfast overlooking the St. Lawrence. Spend the rest of the morning lounging around, swimming, walking, or paddling.

Arrive Thursday afternoon in time for dinner. Each morning, from Friday – Monday, will offer practice, both Led and Mysore-style. Join David Robson for an intensive, week long Immersion in Ashtanga Yoga’s Primary Series.Please note that this is NOT a teacher training course. This is a week of mysore-style practice and workshops on the Primary Series of Ashtanga. Only R. The focus of this week is learning about the traditional system. With daily morning mysore-style practice, technique and posture workshops, learning the traditional vinyasa count, and dedicated study of Sanskrit and the Yoga Sutras, each student will be able to deepen and enrich their practice.
